EUROPEAN GREEN PARTY EXPRESSES DEEP SADNESS FOR THE LOSS OF JACKY MORAEL
The European Green Party Co-Chair
Monica Frassoni expresses deep sadness for the loss of Jacky Morael who died at the age of 57.
He had been President of the Belgian ecologist Party Ecolo, brought it to a remarkable victory in 1999 and operated in favour of the first participation of the Greens in the Belgian Federal Government.
Morael had been engaged in Ecolo since the 80s and contributed greatly to transform the environmental movement in a Party able to govern and attract an important part of the most innovative and socially active public opinion, with a global, social, economic green project based on solidarity.
Lively and pragmatic, he was also a remarkable “visionnaire” who brought a big number of young people in Ecolo. They were seduced by his speeches, his personality and the ecologist programme that he so well embodied.
He was also a convinced pro-european who allowed the political ecology to go well beyond the Belgian borders, especially in Africa.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his family, especially his son Tom and to our green friends from Ecolo and Groen.
